Thank you Theme for the cool article and interview!
The Dead Boys were an amazing band to photograph. Especially their charismatic lead singer Stiv Bators. More than once when I would point my camera in the direction of Stv, he would pull his pants down. Not sure if this was for pure shock value or if he just got a kick out of exposing himself. This photo was taken backstage at The Starwood in ‘78 in their smoke and groupie filled dressing room. FYI, Stiv had the hottest chicks in the industry!
Here is a real gnarly vintage photograph of my pal Stiv Bators from The Dead Boys taken in North Hollywood back in 1977. What do you think of this one?
One of my Tumblr fans asked me to post a photo of Rodney Bingenheimer, The Mayor Of The Sunset Strip. Well here is Rodney backstage with Still Bator from The Dead Boys backstage at The Starwood in 1978. Rodney and I were best pals for years. We traveled the world together and he introduced me to so many incredible talented members of seventies Pop Culture. We still speak all the time. Thank you Tumblr fans. Keep those requests coming!
I was really scared of Stiv Bators and his band The Dead Boys when I first met and photographed them around 1976. Stiv did some wild shit to shock everyone, but deep down he was a really cool guy. I got to know him better several years later in Paris. Rodney Bingenhiemer and I were hanging out with Stiv at his Parisian apartment just a few weeks before he was hit by a car and died.
Bebe Buell adored Stiv Bators from The Dead Boys. I took these photos of the dynamic duo at a Blondie party held at Fiorucci in Beverly Hills around 1980. I have not seen Bebe in decades and the last time I saw Stiv was in Paris a couple of weeks before he was hit by the car.
Anyone remember The Dead Boys? I took this backstage of The Starwood in 1977. Stiv Bators could never keep his fucking pants up!
