This is an early Ramones photo of mine back when the band would stay at the old Tropicana Motel on Santa Monica Blvd. They adored The Trop and the coffee shop, Dukes where the specialty of the house was a frozen Snickers bar!
I keep telling my readers about my days eating these giant sandwiches with Joan Jett at Dukes Coffee shop. Well here is the proof with Joanie downing this giant Brontosaurus Sandwich with my pal Darcy Diamond. This photo was taken a hundred years ago!
Me on the left and Joan on the right. This was when Joan was living at in her palatial suite at The Tropicana Motel in West Hollywood. I would go over there and we would chow down on these tremendous hamburgers at Dukes and then I would take photos. Life was so easy back then. Hamburgers and photos of an icon!
Take a look how Santa Monica Blvd looked back in 1978. That’s Joan Jett of The Runaways standing on the island in the center of the street. On this particular day, Joan and I were hanging at at the old Tropicana Motel which was right across the street. There was this legendary coffee shop called Dukes at the motel and we would eat these giant hamburgers and frozen Snickers bars. After lunch I would haul out my camera and take some photos of Joan before the sun would set off to the west.
Never before published photo of Joan Jett shoving a rather large sandwich from Duke’s into her face! Dukes was the legendary coffee shop at The Tropicana Motel where we were all regulars. I loved the giant Italian Burger. By the way, that is my friend Darcy Diamond sitting there next to Joni!
