When I was growing up and living at my parents house in the San Fernando Valley, I had this yearning to get over the hill to the Sunset Stip. It was an yearning to get over the hill to the action and freedom. By 1976, I was still in my teens and I was pretty well established at my own pad on the Sunset Strip and my trips back to the valley were seldom and only to see my family. One day in the summer of 1977 Cherie Currie called to come over to her parents house deep in the valley. She wanted me to take some photos for The Runaways Japanese record company. I was never thrilled going to the valley, but I knew that I could make some cool photographs of Cherie at home. Joining in the photo shoot was her twin sister Marie and the drop dead gorgeous Vicki Razor Blade from Venus And The Razor Blades, a Kim Fowley creation. Today, I still stay out of the valley unless it is to visit my family. I hope that you enjoy this frame which has never been published before. It’s entitled “San Fernando Valley Chicks”.
This one is for my BuzzNet fans! Back in 1978 I drove over the hill to the SFV to hang out and photograph my friend Cherie Currie at her home. I took photos all over the place, but her fans wanted to see the real Cherie in her bedroom. It was a real cosy bedroom with posters of Bowie and The Runaways adorning the walls. She laid down on her tiny bed, took a drag on her cigarette and I took photos.
This photo was taken at a friend’s birthday in Encino around 1978. That fox on the left is Vicki Razor Blade and then you have Steven T and Cherie Currie of The Runaways. Of course Kim Fowley has his name written all over this photograph. It was Kim’s dream to have blonde haired and green eyed rockers touring all over the world!
Cherie Currie from The Runaways with her collection of surfer studs in her bedroom in the 70’s!
This was some sort of Kim Fowley hustle on the Sunset Strip. Here is Jackie Fox, Cherie with her twin sister Marie Currie and of course the lovely Vicki Razor Blade. Does this look like 1977 or what?
Cherie Currie surrounded by Dakota and Riley Keough at Cherie’s birthday bash. Yeah, I know that I posted it before, but so many new friends to share it with.
Thank you Italian Vogue for using my Cherie Curie photo on the front cover of the Photo Vogue section today! There are more photos!
Thank you Nick Hardy from Factory 311 in London for setting this up for me!!
